The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society a 501(3) (c) organization has an exciting opening for a Strategic Relationship Manager on our Development and Fundraising Team!! This a full-time/hybrid (40 hr/wk) position. Starting salary is based upon experience and knowledge.

TITLE: Strategic Relationship Manager

PRIMARY FUNCTION : Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is seeking an experienced Strategic Relationship Manager to join the Society’s growing Development & Communications team. The Strategic Relationship Manager is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual major donors. These efforts include one-on-one engagement, events, and tailored communications. This position is located at NMCRS headquarters in Arlington, VA, with remote work available. Ability to travel is required. The Strategic Relationship Manager works under the general supervision of the Vice President, Chief Development and Communications Officer, and direct supervision of the Director, Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND MAJOR TASKS :

  • Assists in the development of the overall strategy, plan, objectives, and metrics for the NMCRS major gifts program, with the goal to enhance and deepen donors’ connection and lifetime loyalty to NMCRS and maximize retention. Works with the VP, CDCO, Director, Development, and consultant in the development and implementation of the plan.
  • Manages a portfolio of qualifying high-capacity donors on an ongoing basis, forging strong one-to-one relationships and developing tailored engagement strategies.
  • Works with VP, CDCO, and Director, Development, to effectively leverage NMCRS Advisory Council and Society officers to maximize development opportunities and provide support to CEO and VP, CDCO by providing briefing materials, staffing calls and meetings with major donors/prospects, and performing follow up.
  • Designs and implements a communications plan to engage major donors and prospects, and deepen their connection with the Society’s programs and mission.
  • Leverages industry-leading tools for identifying high-wealth and highly-engaged donors, and for identifying relationships that can provide access to these donors.
  • Manages cultivation and fundraising events/initiatives, including the planning and execution of the events, and follow-up efforts.
  • Uses the donor relations data system (CRM) to maintain and capture critical donor information, including actions and notes, and other pertinent information.
  • Works closely with the NMCRS Individual and Planned Giving Manager to educate donors about legacy giving opportunities and solicit planned gifts when appropriate.
  • Cultivates collaborative relationships with staff across the organization and works closely with Operations team to understand and expertly articulate NMCRS mission, vision, and funding priorities to donors and prospects.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
  • Adheres to all established NMCRS policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education
  • Required
    BA/BS degree, or five years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience
  • Required
    • Five+ years nonprofit fundraising experience, including major gift solicitation and events management
    • Ability to demonstrate discretion and hold sensitive and personal information about donors in confidence
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Hands-on experience with donor cultivation events, from design through execution
    • Strong proficiency in MS Office, MSO 365, and with donor databases
  • Preferred
    • Customer-service mindset with strong understanding of core major giving activities and donor stewardship practices
    • Knowledge of USN and USMC organizations and rank structures
    • Knowledge of Society mission and history
    • Service as member of USN or USMC, or spouse
    Service as Society employee or volunteer
